PRE-PACKED SAMPLE PREPARATION COLUMNS |
| Biochemical Diagnostics, Inc. manufactures a wide variety of extraction and sample preparation columns for the clinical, forensic, research and pharmaceutical laboratories. Each column is manufactured from virgin polypropylene and includes a standard male luer fitting. Column packings and configurations vary according to the application. Please contact us for more information about any of the following products. | |
| Clini-Skreentm Columns , with 25 mL reservoir, are packed with a macroparticle, nonionic, macroporous copolymer which has been specially washed, followed by impregnation with high boiling point wetting agents. The resin extracts "free" and conjugated steroids from a variety of body fluids. | |
| VMA-Skreentm Columns, with 25 mL reservoir, are packed with a special silica gel selected by particle size and pore size for optimized recovery of VMA from urine. | |
| Multi-Prep® Mini-Bed Drug Extraction Columns, with 25 mL reservoir, are packed with a microparticle, non-ionic copolymer which has been specially washed, followed by impregnation with high boiling point wetting agents to enhance drug adsorption. The fibrous discs used to retain the resin were specially developed to handle "dirty" samples often encountered in methadone maintenance programs. These columns will extract acidic, neutral and basic drugs at a single pH of 8.4 from blood, urine, saliva, etc. The resin is useful at a wide pH range (1-12) without deterioration of the bed and requires only 1.5-2.0 mL of elution solvent. The column is being used extensively as a cleanup and drug extraction medium for TLC, HPLC, GC, and immunoassays. | |
| GC/MS Grade Extraction Columns: Two different column configurations are currently available, each with the same bed configuration but with different size reservoirs. This feature enables the operator to interchange between manual and automated methods without varying sample or reagent volumes. The larger column is available in both amber color to help protect light sensitive compounds, and natural opaque white. It has a 15 mL reservoir and may be used manually or with robotic systems such as the Zymate® . The smaller column uses a 3 mL syringe barrel body and is compatible with robotic systems such as the Zymark Benchmate®, the Zymark Rapidtrace® and the Hamilton Microlab® system. A variety of packings are available in these columns including polymers, ion exchangers and several silica gel based bonded phases. Specific examples, available in both configurations, include: |

Detectabuse tm GV-65 Gravity Flow Columns, developed for quantitative extraction of drugs from body fluids, have become, because of their ruggedness and versatility, our most popular polymeric product. One of the most attractive features of the GV-65 column, besides low cost, is it's ability to efficiently extract a large range of compounds including all commonly abused drugs, therapeutic drugs and free and conjugated steroids. Most other manufacturers require two or more different columns to do the same job. The GV-65 column is packed with a microparticle polymeric copolymer (polystyrene with divinylbenzene crosslinkages) which has been impregnated with various wetting agents to optimize it's extraction efficiency . Adsorption in the GV-65 resin is based on its mixed mode capabilities. The underlying resin structure allows van der waals' forces and hydrogen bonding (non-ionic). A unique chemical switch enables you to activate the cation function of the resin. This enables the simultaneous use of the non-ionic and cation functions of this versatile extraction column. The GV-65 column remains the same as it has always been when the cation function is not activated. These columns operate by gravity flow at approximately 1 mL/min or may be induced with vacuum or positive pressure. They are generally used with 0.5-3.0 mL of urine or blood and require less than one mL of elution solvent. |

| Multi-Prep® GVSA-50 & GVSA-200 Gravity Flow Columns are packed with a small particle, strong base, anion exchange resin structured on a crosslinked, porous polystyrene matrix with trimethyl ammonium functional groups. These columns are ideally suited for the extraction of acidic compounds from body fluids. Such diverse and often difficult to extract compounds including Gamma-hydroxybutyrate, Homocysteine, and Methylmalonic Acid are selectively and efficiently extracted. All procedures are run by gravity flow (1-2 mL/min) and usually do not require the use of a vacuum or positive pressure column drying step prior to elution. | |
| Reverse Phase C-18 and Reverse Phase C-8 Extraction Columns, similar in application to the Multi-Prep and Detectabuse columns, are offered for applications which specify the use of a silica gel based, reverse phase extraction technique. The silica gel particle size range is from 35-60 microns with a pore size of 60 angstroms. Their usefulness is limited to applications within a fairly narrow pH range: The Si-C bonds are attacked below pH 2 and the silica matrix begins to hydrolyze in the presence of alkaline conditions. | |
